The BLUGH: February 22, 2023
“If it is not right, do not do it, if it is not true, do not say it.”
BLUGH day!!! Been thinking about LUXURY and buying things! Could be good! Could be bad!!!
When I first moved to NYC, I was VERY focused on fitting in. I didn’t know what I was doing so I thought fitting in meant wearing certain clothing, going to a specific gym, and talking about wearing certain clothing and going to a specific gym. Effectively, I lost sight of what I even liked to do or have or eat or ANYTHING. It was very weird! I just knew that NICE things were important and that NICE was not for me to define. To be clear: there is nothing wrong with wearing certain clothing or going to a specific gym and taking about it DUH THAT IS NOT THE POINT. The problem was that I didn’t know what I wanted so I spent tons of money on nonsense in an effort to be “one of the gals”. I have happily moved past this stage (a story for a different BLUGH) and now when I make the decision to purchase nice things or treat myself to luxury, I know exactly what I want.
Justina luxuries she will spend an honest dollar on (a sampling):
perfume (a story for like 5 other BLUGHs, do not get me started on perfume)
comfortable jeans (what if I need to do the splits?)
Good sunscreen
Mascara that makes my eyelashes LONG and washes off easily (doesn’t need to be waterproof because I never cry!!!)
Groceries delivered to my house
Books
And of course there are plenty of nice and luxurious things that don’t require me to spend money, some of which I list below:
Deep breaths
Extra sleep
Having done the BLUGH ahead of time so I am not scrambling on a Tuesday night
Sunshine
Reading
Forgiveness
Forgetness
Water under the bridgeness
❤️ LEARNING OF THE WEEK: There is very little value in this learning, but a la luxury and buying things you don’t need: Goop is thus named because it is just a double O between Gwenyth Paltrow’s initials. That is all.
BONUS: Take this fun quiz I made to find our your Goop name!! (I am Joos) ❤️
PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION
This is the first ✨READER SUBMITTED✨ product recommendation. While I cannot vouch for this myself, the endorsement that Kat gave this hair dryer would lead anyone to believe she were deeply in love with it. It is light, it is effective, it is kind, it is hard working, it treats your parents well….oh, oh my…I am in love with the SMART-X™ High Efficiency Dryer too. Yes, it is expensive, but this is the luxury BLUGH so go crazy (or ask your stylist to get you one at a discount from a salon wholesaler (or just do eBay)).

BOOK RECOMMENDATION
Luxury + reading = beach read. In case you didn’t know, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is HILARIOUS and sweet and touching and SO SO SO good! It’s also one of those books where you read it and you can hear the accent of the characters! Many people know of this book because of Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club which, by the way, is a very good book club and the books she curates are really genuinely good. This book can be read at the beach and also different geographies such as mountains, cityscapes, lakes, and beyond.

TIKTOKS
The greatest luxury of them all: scrolling mindlessly through Tik Tok. Here are this week’s picks:
