The BLUGH: June 7, 2023
“…it is the smallest of all known anteaters.”
I COULN’T FIGURE OUT WHAT TO WRITE THE BLUGH ABOUT, OK? Maybe if I started working on this sooner in the week, I wouldn’t be struggling. Maybe if I were better about writing down the things I am think-writing in my head, I’d have some content! Maybe if I did that 10 ideas a day exercise, I’d have BLUGH ideas from that!! We’ll never know. What we do know, though, is that the Silky Anteater is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. In an effort to distract myself from the BLUGH at hand, I went down a Silky Anteater hole (or should I say when UP a Silky Anteater TREE? These guys are nearly 100% arboreal). Since I chose this path, you too must pay the price. Please see below for some facts about this lil nugget:
They have a 2.3 year lifespan (devastating)
Native to Central and South America, think southern Mexico to Bolivia
The Silky Anteater is 🔥💅FIERCE💅🔥 and has Louboutin feet, for real
They eat 3,000ish ants a day but that’s barely enough to sustain them so they spend a lot of time in torpor (same!!!) to save energy
The young are raised by both parents! Thank👏 you👏
Speaking of which, the baby is a “pup”, the mom is a '“sow”, and the dad is a “boar” (MORE LIKE BORE AMIRIGHT, LADIES!?!!).
They are SMALL. This also brings us back to today’s BLUGH quote from the Wikipedia page for Silky Anteater….like are there other anteaters, Wiki? What do you mean “known anteaters”?? A lot to think about.
That’s really it folks. Silky Anteater is all I can muster for this BLUGH. This begs the question: is the Silky Anteater a symbol for humanity’s reluctance to pursue what truly moves us? Is the torpor of this small creature similar to the mind melting that takes place as we pick up our phones and scroll mindlessly? The lifespan of the Silky Anteater is so brief, but is this not motivation to enjoy every moment, to climb every tree, to eat every ant? Look deep into the eyes of the Silky Anteater and decide for yourself:
