The BLUGH: August 2, 2023
“Let your heart break so your spirit doesn’t”
Hey guys! How are you? It’s Awesome August. What’s Awesome August you ask? Awesome August is me trying this new thing where I give the new month a positive and alliterative adjective to set the stage for great things to happen. It’s Awesome August. Act accordingly.
Question for my readers: Do you guys wear clothes? Ok good good me too I also wear clothes and I love it! I think about clothes a LOT. Specifically, I think about clothes and how they look or would look on me. The conclusion of all this thought? I have absolutely no idea what I look like in anything.
Shopping for clothes is CRAZY. It’s overwhelming, expensive, daunting, tricky, gimmicky, and guilt-inducing, at least for me. This begs the question: why have I kept coming back to clothes shopping after countless returns, awkward exchanges with sales people, and clothing that I don’t even like and rarely wear after I purchase it? I kept coming back because I always thought that surely, the perfect pair of jeans for my body must be out there somewhere. And it was July 17, 2023 that I found that indeed, the perfect pair, nay, the perfect brand of jeans for me did exist. They’re expensive but I feel very held when I wear them. Oh, to be held.
Now that I have my perfect jeans, will I stop wasting hours online shopping? Subscribe to the BLUGH to find out. Oh you are subscribed? In that case, send me money so I can buy more of these jeans. Thank you.
🧪LEARNING OF THE WEEK: There’s chemicals in our clothes, dammit. Sometimes I’d rather be an uninformed consumer, but I was put on this earth to learn, grow, thrive, shop responsibly.🧪
PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION
Not so much a product as a service. Is there a Nordstrom near you? If so, then RUN there and take advantage of their FREE styling services. I did this first with my mom for her and then I went for me and I was blown away. It was so helpful to have someone pick things out for me based on my size and a questionnaire I filled out ahead of time. And yes, you do have to pay for the clothing, but if you tell them your budget up front, they will stick with it. Also also, you don’t HAVE to buy anything! I wish I had known about this sooner. This is how I found out about my wonderful jeans!!

BOOK RECOMMENDATION
Talking about and thinking about clothing so much can lead a person to lose sight of what is important, like really important in life. Reading is one of those things that helps bring me back to what really matters to me. Right now I am reading an amazing poetry book, You Better Be Lightning, by Andrea Gibson. I never read poetry and this has me feeling all kinds of emotions and really makes me look up from the page and stare into space in a good way. Mostly I just feel very alive and grateful to be alive when I read their work. I first heard of Andrea Gibson on this podcast episode which I highly recommend. They have a pretty big body of work so lucky me for just now discovering them.
