Everything is hard before it is easy.
— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Preach, Goethe,” I whisper to myself as I stare at my computer screen, hunched in my chair like a gargoyle while I work on this week’s BLUGH.

Sorry I’m a day late!! Just out here living an interesting and exotic life that keeps me busy (read: I left the BLUGH until the last minute and couldn’t pump it out in time for its 8:30am EST syndication on Wednesday).

HOW ARE YOU GUYS? What are some things that were hard and then became easy for you? Here’s my list:

  • Getting out of the house to go see people to be social (used to be VERY hard for me)

  • Any job I’ve ever had EXCEPT teaching middle school. That was perpetually hard omg

  • Español

  • Making shakshuka (I use this recipe)

  • Painting my nails on my right hand jk THIS STILL VERY HARD FOR ME.

The list goes on but YOU GET IT. Question for Goethe tho: when will waking up before 7am become easy? 🧐

🐀LEARNING OF THE WEEK: RATS ARE ACTUALLY AMAZING. Specifically, the African giant pouched rat is amazing. Did you know about this? They are smart and perfect for sniffing out landmines because they don’t set them off because of their light weight. One was even awarded an adorably perfectly sized gold medal for his service!!! The impressive behavior doesn’t stop there though! They are being trained to sniff out tuberculosis! I am in awe (and awwww!).🐀

PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION

Trader Joes. We know it, we love it. Or we don’t. Personally, it’s always so crowded when I try to go that I try to avoid it. That said, there is a product of theirs to which I am steadfastly-loyal. Their pepper grinders. And I mean just plain table pepper grinders. Here’s what I’m talking about (not sure if link legit, just go to TJ’s) for reference. Like they GRIND so well!!! Most peppers do not and so we will sometimes buy pepper from another store and just reuse the TJ’s grinder. And if you’re feeling WILD, their lemon pepper, which also comes in a grinder, is great too.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

Hear me out: graphic novels. SO GOOD. I haven’t read as many as I would have liked but the first one I ever read was Blankets by Craig Thompson and wow, emotions. As with any book I share on the BLUGH, I don’t want to give too much away but just know it is a story of first love and you will likely feel things you haven’t felt in YEARS when reading it. At least that was my experience. A beautiful book and I loved getting to read it. IF YOU CAN: read when you are cozy and curled up with a blanket while it is snowing outside.

❌ NO TIKTOKS❌

I can’t. This week, I can’t. Tune in next week for a collection (maybe).

FEBRUARY 2022

Is this love?

A year and a half ago I met this bowling pin that was so much taller than me (💖swoon💖) and I’ve been thinking of him ever since.
